Title: M222, Interactions and Fields
Institution: Murdoch University, Australia

Level:

Degree.

Description:
This course is a sequel to M122 Particles in Motion and M124 Waves, and is the third of a five part sequence devoted to the development of a unified and comprehensive view of natural phenomena. The field approach provides the unifying theme for discussing the fundamental interactions of nature and their influence on particle motion.
The course begins with a discussion of the gravitational,
electrostatic, magnetic and nuclear interactions. This is followed by units on electromagnetic fields, electromagnetic induction, AC and DC circuits and Maxwell's equations and their application including the wave equation, reflection and refraction and waveguides.

Assessment is by assignments and tests.

Prerequisites: M122 Particles in Motion, and M161 Calculus and Matrix Algebra. It is recommended that M261 Mathematical Methods should be taken concurrently.
